In any separation, your kids are going to have lot In any separation, your kids are going to have lots of big, tough feelings to process.
As a parent, it’s hard to know what to say — and how to help them.

The good news?
It’s much more important to be there and listen than to say the one “right” thing
(spoiler: there is no one right thing).

This can be especially reassuring when you’re struggling with your own emotions and finding it hard not to speak disrespectfully about your ex to your kids.
We know that doing so can hurt them.

Listening — without inserting your own opinions or emotions — is far more helpful.

👂 Listen.
💛 Validate their feelings.
👂 Then listen some more.

Bad-mouthing your ex creates dissonance and distrust.
Listening shows your children that you are a safe space for whatever they’re feeling.
